Am I a pre-2009 student?

Students who commenced their course of study in 2008 are considered 'Pre-2009 students' and continue to be charged for Mathematics, Statistics and Science units as Band 2 (as above).

You are a pre-2009 student if you:

  • started your course of study prior to 31 December 2008; and
  • are not a pre-2008 CSP student; and
  • are not transferring in 2009 to a natural and physical science course of study;
    and
  • are studying a unit in mathematics, statistics or science funding cluster. Eligible students will be charged at the higher (pre-2009) maximum student contribution amount when undertaking units in this funding cluster.

You will still be considered a pre-2009 student if, from 2009, you meet the requirements, and you:

  • transfer from one course of study to another (except if you are transferring from a non-Natural and Physical Science course to a Natural and Physical Science course*)
  • transfer between higher education providers
  • are pre-2009 eligible in a Commonwealth Supported place and discontinue course and recommence same course or a new course
  • undertake a course after completing an enabling course for which you were eligible as pre-2009 CSP student
  • complete a course for which you were eligible as a pre-2009 CSP student and undertake the honours course.

*If you commence a course of study that is not a Natural and Physical Science course before 2009 and transfer to a Natural and Physical Science course you will be charged for units undertaken in mathematics, statistics and science as Band 4: National Priority.

Note: A pre-2008 student may also be eligible as a pre-2009 student if they commence a Natural and Physical Sciences course in 2009.

To be considered as a Pre-2009 student please complete an Application to be considered as a pre-2008, pre-2009 or pre-2010 Commonwealth Supported Student.
